Student Senate Reports
Reports written by Emily W. one of our outstanding 8th grade students...
Last night was our bowling night and thank you to all those who came and made it a huge success! A big thank you to Mrs. Haber for all the hard work she put into organizing it. Congrats to Justin L. who had the highest scoring game and to Emma R. who had the second highest scoring game. It was a great night with a special surprise visit from Hercules, our Holmes mascot.
On the 21st we had our first ever mustache day. Thank you to all those who donated money. It went to a great cause, giving a college fund to two kids of a Livonia Public School teacher who recently passed away.
Even before that on Valentines day we had a red/pink out in honor of the holiday. Many participated and Holmes green and white was turned to red and pink for a day!
Thanks again for all the support of these three events and don't forget Student Senate has a meeting this Wednesday.
Good afternoon! It’s getting very busy for our student senate as it gets nearer to the holidays. Ten selected senate members are going to Kennedy elementary and are making snowmen with the visually impaired. It is a great opportunity and please talk to Ms. Haber about learning how to create them at lunchtime. They are very excited for you to come and to be their eyes.
As a charity project on the last week before winter break Aubrey, Elise, and Mary Kate are selling candy canes. The regular ones will be 25 cents and the specialty will be 50 cents. Student Senate and anyone really, are being asked to donate a box of candy canes. If you can donate a box of candy canes then bring them on Wednesday to the student senate meeting.
On December 18th Student Senate will have the much awaited Christmas party. We are still debating on food so if you have any ideas stop by Mr. Strzempka’s room. We will be starting a modified white elephant this year. Bring a gift that is $5 and you can participate in a fun gift exchange.
We are having some big spirit days coming up. On the 18th it will be an official pajama day. The next day is ugly sweater day. Pull out the ugliest Christmas sweater you can find. Last, the day before break we are having a Holmes spirit day. Wear your green and white!
Good morning! This week student senate had a very busy meeting. We are working hard to plan a trip where senate members will go to Kennedy to do a winter craft and make brail cookies with their visually impaired students. Thank you to all those who volunteered to go.
At our Tie for the Typhoon Tuesday we raised over $580 to help out those devastated by the typhoon. Let’s give a round of applause to all those who participated and those who donated money even if they did not where a tie. This money will go to disaster relief and again Holmes has shown how we help others in times of need.
Student Senate remember we still need Social Studies representatives, it would show your leadership for our student body. Remember there is no meeting this week because of thanksgiving.

The Student Senate is wishing the boys and girls basketball teams good luck for the upcoming seasons. The Sports Support Committee is here to help.
Student Senate has voted and decided on the “We Believe” shirt. Hopefully we can get those shirts out ASAP.

Good Morning, we hope everyone has had a great Halloween and got lots of candy. Our Halloween activity night was a big success thank to the parent volunteers and staff who stayed on their own time to help. A special shout out to the CAPA kids who put together the great haunted house that many enjoyed.
Our Soles for Souls drive has been a success! We are donating over 1000 pairs of shoes. Last Friday Student Senate members stayed after to help load the U-Haul truck for Haiti. Mrs. Haber will be going there this winter herself to pass out these gifts. A big thank you to all those who donated shoes and participated in the walk-a-thon to help our cause.
*Attention to Senate: There will be another meeting this Wednesday, please do come.
Thank you for your time and support,
Holmes Student Senate
