Welcome from Mr. Opsommer

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! I hope you have found time to enjoy your family this summer. During this season, I have been able to enjoy my own family and it reminds me of how precious children are and the great responsibility I have here at Holmes Middle School.

My name is Roger Opsommer and I am grateful to introduce myself as the new principal of Holmes Middle School. I am honored and humbled to have the responsibility to serve this community. My vision as a building principal is to create a safe and nurturing teaching and learning environment for all students. I have used this philosophy in education for over 24 years. During these years, I have served as a middle school teacher, high school assistant principal, district athletic director and for the last 11 years as a middle school principal. Those years have taught me to advocate for all children. It is vital that I spend time getting to know students’ personalities and interests to better understand their needs. I will share in their success and encourage them every day so they know they are valued and have a special place in our school.

I wholeheartedly believe that great schools are a result of great parental involvement. Working together and building strong relationships with one another is crucial to the success of our students. My partnership with you starts today and I encourage you to become involved in any way you can. My experience has taught me that this important work takes many caring hands.  I know this well as my wife and I have 5 children of our own with ages ranging from 5 to 16 years old. I appreciate the care and support I receive from my family and friends and want to approach my partnership with you in the same way.

Excited is an understatement as I plan and prepare to serve the needs of our students and staff well. I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will learn as much about the uniqueness of Holmes this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. I appreciate the opportunity to unite my experience, my openness to learn and my child-centered approach to support our students. I look forward to getting to know you and your children. Please feel free to email or call to say hello. I can’t wait to meet each of you very soon!

Sincerely,

Roger Opsommer
